Living in South Africa

Mr. Reeves spoked to us about how he lived in Durban, South Africa while growing up and there was a lot of discrimination and racism.

I don’t know how people lived there, I would have not been able to stay around with the same type of people as me, same culture, etc. I would have really needed to mix around with other people.

I really liked Nelson Mandela’s plan of reuniting the country by sports, because South Africa loved sports, especially rugby. Rugby was played mostly by the white people, so the coloured used to hate it, but deep inside they would really like playing it. Nelson Mandela’s plan of reuniting the country worked, although there is still discrimination and racism, it was less than before. South Africa was finally allowed to play in the World Cup and they won that year. Blacks, coloured and white all together celebrated for their countries victory and which was a great thing back then to reunite the country for less discrimination and racism.

Mike Taylor

I chose Mike Taylor as my mentor poet for my emotions poem. I love the way he rhymes and then goes with something that you wouldn’t expect. I choose him because I want my poem to be like that, it keeps me going and it might be my favourite spoken word I have heard. He makes it very detailed and vivid, so when he talks I can imagine and really understand the poem.

Living in New York on September 11th 2001

It was a lovely morning, while a woman and her baby were watching television, suddenly she heard a big boom and rushes to the window. She saw there was a plane through the World Trade Center building and it was on fire. Wishing no one was there, but it was already 9:00 am, I would’ve wished the same.
Her hands were shaking while she opened her window, and all you would here was fire trucks and screaming, there goes one person jumping out the building. At first we would think “Is he mad?” but the people there didn’t have any other choice.
Then we see another plane going through the second building of the World Trade Center, hit in the middle of the building. The structure fell and the building collapsed, before the first World Trade Building could.
One of the two buildings collapsed and the whole city is covered in smoke and ashes, everything is white. In another blink of an eye we see the first World Trade Center building collapse.
I am speechless. How someone would think of doing something like this? It was a very sad and depressing video and I am impressed of how people would think of doing such things. I didn’t remember it when it happened, because I was only 2 years old, but now that I see the video it’s just innocent people dying, very tragic.

My First Day Without Using Single Use Disposable Items

On Thursday September 6th 2012 & Friday September 7th 2012, I did not use single use disposable plastic. If one by one we would do this we would make a very big difference in the world. I didn’t know I used to use so much plastic, until I stopped and had to make through without it. Although the only exception I did was for the plastic bag in school they gave us with food. Everywhere there was plastic, and I was wondering what can I use, before touching it, I would ask myself if it was single use, before grabbing it.
